Imo state team this morning at the Paul University, Awka, venue of the 7th Chuma Anosike Cup, Imo State Cricket Team defeated University of Nigeria Cricket Team (the defending Champion) by 86 Runs.

The match that was completed this morning due to the bad light declared yesterday had Imo team recording 161 runs in 19.4 overs with 2 balls to spare while UNN team chased the runs and garnered only 75 runs all out in 10.4 overs.

In the match between Team Ebonyi and Abia States, Ebonyi won the toss and elected to bat setting a tournament record of 276 runs for 6 wickets in a 20 overs game. Team Abia represented by the Government College, Umuahia put up a hard chase but only secured 92 Runs all out in 17.4 overs, giving Ebonyi victory by 4 wickets. Reacting to the UNN and Imo state shocker, the Captain of the Imo team, Chuka Ogbue stated that it was a good omen for then to have got the first victory against UNN since the median edition. He attributed the huge success to God, hard work, commitment and team spirit which was fortified by the constant play through the Imo State League.

The captain of the University of Nigeria team stated that they started well but lost the grip in the Tenth over when they dropped 2 vital catches of the Imo batsman that eventually scored a century.
