Ivoirian striker, Guy Kuemian scored a stupendous goal for Rivers United in Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup playoff game against Rwandan club, Rayon Sports.

Kuemian fired home a brilliant drive from a tight angle to leave the Rayon goalkeeper, Eric Ndayishinye with no chance as the ‘Pride of Rivers’ won 2-0 in the first leg of the tie.

The former Leones Vegetarianos hitman said he had just one thing at the back of his mind the moment he received the pass.

“I knew I was going to shoot the moment I received that pass; that was the only thing on my mind,” Kuemian told supersport.com.

“My teammate, Weli Christian has similar abilities and we always practice shooting from range in training.

“I once scored a similar goal for my former club against Sony Ela Nguema in the league in Equatorial Guinea. I was happy to do it for Rivers United too,” he said.

The Nigerian club will now take their first leg advantage to Kigali as they look to progress to the group stage for the first time in their history.

Kuemian predicts things will be far from straightforward at the Amahoro Stadium and is looking to draw from his experience of the club’s 4-0 capitulation to Sudanese club, Al-Merreikh in the first round of this year’s Caf Champions League.

“I think we relaxed a bit after easily beating Al Merreikh 3-0 in Port Harcourt in the first leg.

“Some of us thought the job had been done and we paid the price.

“Now, we must learn from that experience and play like we lost the first leg when we get to Kigali.

“Rayon Sports is a very good side and they proved it with their performance in Port Harcourt.

“We must fight hard and play a great game in the second leg,” he said.

The Rayon Sports versus Rivers United game will be played at the Amahoro Stadium on Saturday.
